Mumbai Police is investigating a bomb threat to the RBI helpline by a caller claiming to be Lashkar-e-Taiba’s “CEO.” The threat follows a rise in hoax calls targeting airlines and institutions. Authorities, including MeitY, have urged stringent measures against misinformation, stressing the need for security to counter public and economic risks.
Mumbai Police launched an investigation after a bomb threat was made to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) helpline on Saturday. The caller, claiming to be the "CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba," threatened a bombing at the central bank and shockingly sang a song before ending the call.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based terror group responsible for the devastating 2008 Mumbai attacks, has been under heightened scrutiny by Indian security agencies. The incident has caused alarm amid a rise in hoax threats targeting public institutions and airlines, posing serious challenges to law enforcement.
This latest threat follows a string of recent hoaxes, including a bomb scare on an IndiGo flight from Nagpur to Kolkata last Thursday. The aircraft was diverted to Raipur, where the threat was declared false after thorough inspections. Such incidents have disrupted operations, raised public anxiety, and drawn attention to the misuse of communication platforms.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has taken a strong stance, warning social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation. Authorities highlighted how hoax threats not only disturb public order but also risk undermining national security.
As security forces investigate the identity of the caller, Mumbai Police has heightened security measures, particularly at critical locations. Additional steps are being implemented to prevent future threats, ensuring both public and economic stability.

The threat also spurred the RBI to tighten security protocols, emphasizing the need for vigilance in the face of escalating threats.
