In a surprising move, Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy turned down a job offer from Air India and instead opted to join the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) at half the salary. While many were perplexed by this decision, Murthy has recently shed light on his reasons for choosing the path he did.

In a statement released to the press, Murthy explained that he had always been passionate about education and believed that it was one of the key drivers of progress and development in any society. He felt that his experience and knowledge could be put to better use in the academic world, where he could help shape the minds of the next generation of leaders.

Furthermore, Murthy had concerns about the state of Air India and the challenges it was facing at the time. He was not confident that he could make the necessary changes to turn the airline around and was not willing to take on a job where he felt he would not be able to make a meaningful impact.

On the other hand, Murthy was impressed with the work being done at IIM-A and felt that he could contribute to the institution's continued success. He saw an opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in the country and help shape the future of management education in India. Additionally, Murthy felt that the academic environment would give him the freedom to explore new ideas and pursue his passions without the constraints of a corporate job.

When asked about his decision to accept a lower salary, Murthy shrugged it off, stating that money had never been his primary motivation. He believed that if one was passionate about their work and driven by a desire to make a difference, success and financial rewards would naturally follow.

Many have praised Murthy for his decision, citing it as a testament to his commitment to education and his willingness to take risks in pursuit of his goals. Some have even suggested that his decision has had a ripple effect on the corporate world, inspiring others to consider a career in academia or to focus on making a difference in the world rather than just chasing money and power.

Overall, NR Narayana Murthy's decision to turn down a job offer from Air India and join IIM-A at half the salary may have come as a surprise to many, but it reflects his unwavering commitment to education and his desire to make a meaningful impact on the world. As he continues to inspire others with his actions, it is clear that his legacy will continue to live on for generations to come.
