Indian envoy Sanjay Kumar Verma accused Canada of harboring Khalistani extremists as “deep assets” of its intelligence service. In response to Canada's accusations regarding Hardeep Singh Nijjar's murder, Verma criticized the Trudeau government for encouraging extremism and emphasized the need for concrete evidence to support their politically motivated claims.
Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, has alleged that Khalistani extremists are “deep assets” of Canada’s security agency, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). Verma's claims come after he was recalled following Canada's accusations of Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
In an interview with CTV News, Verma criticized the Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for allegedly encouraging Khalistani extremists and failing to address India's concerns about threats to its sovereignty. He emphasized that these extremists, although Canadian citizens, are challenging India's territorial integrity, an act that no country should tolerate from its citizens.
Verma called the accusations against India in Nijjar's murder politically motivated and denied any involvement. He stated that no evidence was presented to support Canada’s claims and insisted that his role as High Commissioner was never to gather information through covert means but to monitor pro-Khalistani activists via open sources such as media and social networks.

The tension between India and Canada has escalated since the Trudeau government declared Indian diplomats "persons of interest" in Nijjar's murder case. India, dismissing the allegations, expelled six Canadian diplomats and has urged Canada to provide concrete evidence supporting its claims.
