NCT Delhi welcomed the weekend with rain showers since Saturday early morning. Intense rain poured over areas of Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region, including Noida, on Saturday morning. This provided a welcome relief from the hot and humid weather that had been prevailing in the past few days.
The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) in New Delhi predicted that there would be thunderstorms with "light to moderate intensity rain and heavy intensity rain" in isolated areas, along with strong winds blowing at speeds of 30-50 km/hour. These conditions were expected to affect various parts of Delhi, including Kanjhawala, Delhi University, and Punjabi Bagh.
Previously, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had anticipated thunderstorms on Saturday, which would then gradually diminish into light rainfall over the weekend.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that the primary surface wind in Delhi is expected to originate from the west, blowing at a speed of 12-20 kmph. This would coincide with overcast skies and the potential for light rain.
Meanwhile, at 5 am on Saturday, the air quality in Delhi's Anand Vihar remained in the "very poor" category. However, the overall air quality index (AQI) for Delhi is projected to improve to a "satisfactory" level over the weekend.
Visuals from different regions of Delhi depict the effects of Downpour. Kartavya Path and Shastri Bhavan are seen drenched in rain. Commuters and homeless people were found taking shelter to save themselves. Dwarka faced waterlogging on roads, triggering traffic jams due to rain lashing early in the morning.
