Sanjay Roy's sister has stated that the family has no intention of challenging the guilty verdict in the RG Kar rape-murder case.

Roy, a civic volunteer, was convicted by the Sealdah court on January 18, 2025, for the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The victim was found dead in a seminar hall on August 9, 2024, and Roy was arrested the following day.

Speaking from Bhawanipore, Roy's sister expressed the family's grief, emphasizing they were devastated by the verdict. She refrained from visiting the court and did not comment on her brother's guilt, but added that if he committed the crime, he should face the appropriate punishment.

Although the family is not contesting the conviction, Roy’s sister shared that they have had minimal contact with him in recent years, especially since her marriage in 2007. She further revealed that her mother was unwell and declined to make any public statements.

Roy's defense had claimed his innocence, but the court found him guilty under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to rape and murder. Roy’s family neighbour, Umesh Mahato, also echoed the sentiment for proper punishment while suggesting that any other potential perpetrators should not escape justice.
