Nouhaila Benzina Set to Script History at Women's World Cup Amidst Controversial Hijab Ban in France

Critics of the hijab ban, like Iqra Ismail, a coach with Hilltop Women FC in the UK, argue that it is a step backward for inclusivity in football. Ismail believes football and religious identity should coexist, emphasising the importance of embracing diversity.

Assile Toufaily, a sports-sociology Ph.D. candidate in France, highlights the irony of a country proud of its "Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen" restricting the freedom of players based on a simple piece of cloth. The ban affects players' rights and sends a disheartening message to Muslim women who are passionate about football.


As Morocco prepares to face Germany in their World Cup opener, the focus is on their on-field performance and their symbolic stance in the face of controversy. The stage is set for Nouhaila Benzina to showcase her skills, determination, and faith, breaking barriers for Muslim women in football.
