Oscars 2024: Nitin Desai, Art Director, Receives Tribute in Academy Awards Memoriam Segment

The Oscars 2024 paid tribute to Indian art director Nitin Desai, recognizing his significant contributions to the film industry. Known for his collaborations with top filmmakers, Desai's legacy was honored alongside other luminaries in the Memoriam section. His studio, ND Studios, and his work on 'Aap Ki Adalat' were also remembered fondly.

Indian art director Nitin Desai was honored posthumously at the Oscars 2024 ceremony, held on Monday. Renowned for his collaborations with acclaimed filmmakers, Desai's legacy was commemorated in the Memoriam section. His work notably includes collaborations with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowarikar, and others.

Desai's journey in the film industry began in 1989 with his debut as an art director in "Parinda." Over the years, he contributed to numerous iconic films such as "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" (1999) and "Devdas" (2002). His final project, "Panipat" (2019), showcased his talent as a production designer.

In addition to his film work, Desai established ND Studios in Karjat, spanning 52 acres and hosting productions like "Jodha Akbar" and "Traffic Signal." The Oscars also remembered other luminaries like Matthew Perry and Harry Belafonte in the Memoriam section.

Following Desai's passing in 2023, tributes poured in from various quarters, including India TV Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma. Sharma recalled Desai's association with the popular news show 'Aap Ki Adalat,' highlighting how Desai's studio was integral to its production.

"Today, Nitin Desai is no more but the set he created for the show will always remind me of him," said India TV chairman Rajat Sharma, reflecting on Desai's lasting impact.
