Renowned literary figure Usha Kiran Khan, honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award, has sadly passed away at the age of 79 in Patna, Bihar. The news of her demise has cast a pall of gloom over the literary community, not just in Bihar but across the nation. Dr. Khan, celebrated for her contributions to both Hindi and Maithili literature, breathed her last in a private hospital in Patna where she was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Born on July 7, 1945, in Bihar's Laheriasarai, Dr. Usha Kiran Khan's journey as a writer was marked by brilliance and distinction. Her literary prowess was evident early on, and she garnered recognition for her exceptional command over both languages, Hindi and Maithili. Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Khan penned numerous works that left an indelible mark on the literary landscape of India.

One of her most notable achievements was winning the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2011 for her Maithili novel titled 'Bhamati: Ek Avismaraniya Premkatha'. This accolade solidified her status as a luminary in Maithili literature and brought her work to a wider audience. Subsequently, in 2012, she was bestowed with the Kusumanjali Sahitya Samman by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations for her novel 'Sirjanhaar', further cementing her reputation as a formidable literary force.
