Rescue operations continue into the seventh day following the collapse of a section of the Silkyara Tunnel on the Uttarkashi-Yamnotri road. The tunnel collapse, trapping 40 workers, has posed challenges, temporarily pausing relief efforts due to an equipment malfunction on Friday. A US-made auger machine encountered issues, prompting a pause in the operation.

To bolster rescue endeavors, authorities swiftly arranged for an advanced drilling machine from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This replacement apparatus aims to supplement the interrupted operation and assist in the delicate extraction process. The new machine's prompt transportation from the Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun to the collapse site underscores the urgency of the situation.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, actively engaged in crisis management, directed officials to ensure adequate support for the affected workers' families. The state government pledged accommodations, food, and healthcare facilities for these families. Emphasizing the importance of ongoing coordination, Dhami urged continuous updates to the families regarding relief efforts and their loved ones' status.

However, the operation faced a setback on Friday afternoon when a loud cracking sound reverberated inside the tunnel, prompting a temporary suspension. Concerns over potential further collapses arose, compelling a cautious approach. This incident caused anxiety among rescue teams, leading to a halt in pipe-pushing activities.

In response to the urgency, representatives from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) arrived at the site to assess the situation firsthand. The Indian Air Force also lent critical support by airlifting necessary equipment from Indore to Dehradun, further demonstrating a unified effort to aid in the rescue mission.

Despite the temporary setback and challenges, authorities assured that communication channels through the tunnel would allow relatives of the trapped workers to establish contact. The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited oversees this significant government project, intensifying efforts for the safe and timely rescue of those trapped. Continuous updates and coordinated efforts underscore the commitment to resolving this critical situation in Uttarakhand's tunnel collapse.
