PhonePe has threatened to take legal action against Congress

Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh - Fintech services company PhonePe has taken a strong stance against the alleged unauthorized usage of its brand logo by Madhya Pradesh Congress on posters promoting a political campaign. The company has expressed its intention to take legal action against the party for infringing upon its intellectual property rights.

The controversial posters, prominently featuring Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, contained a message suggesting that paying a 50 percent commission would result in favorable outcomes for individuals. These posters appeared in several locations across the state, including Gwalior, Chindwara, Rewa, Satna, and Bhopal. However, local authorities swiftly removed the posters upon discovery.

The posters, designed to resemble QR code sheets utilized by fintech companies for online payments, prominently displayed the brand name "PhonePe" at the top. PhonePe promptly addressed the issue on its official Twitter handle, denouncing any association with political campaigns or parties. The company emphasized that it objected to the unauthorized use of its brand logo by any entity, whether political or non-political.

Highlighting the registered trademark status of the PhonePe logo, the company warned that any infringement upon its intellectual property rights would result in legal consequences. PhonePe respectfully requested the Madhya Pradesh Congress to remove all posters and banners featuring their brand logo and colors, reaching out to the party's state unit on Twitter.

Concurrently, a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at Padav Police Station against unidentified individuals responsible for affixing the posters. Local authorities are actively investigating the matter. Additionally, a complaint has been filed by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, claiming defamation of his party's image, leading to a separate case being registered.

PhonePe's response underscores the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and the potential legal ramifications for unauthorized usage of brand logos. The Madhya Pradesh Congress now faces the possibility of legal action as a result of this dispute.
