In response to the
disturbing incident in Manipur, where two women were paraded naked amid ethnic
clashes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep concern and referred
to it as a disgrace to the nation. He pledged that those responsible for this
heinous act would not escape justice.
"The nation will
witness that no guilty party involved in this heinous act will go unpunished.
The law will be enforced with maximum strength. The treatment the daughters of
Manipur endured is unforgivable," PM Modi asserted.
The incident sparked widespread outrage after a video of the appalling act surfaced online. In light of this, PM Modi urged all Chief Ministers to prioritize the protection of women across all states, transcending political differences.
"The incidents of
violence are a shame for the entire nation and its people. I appeal to all
Chief Ministers to prioritize the safety of women, irrespective of the state
they belong to - be it Rajasthan, Manipur, or Chhattisgarh. We must rise above
politics to safeguard our women," he stated ahead of the parliament's monsoon
session.
Furthermore, Union Home
Minister Amit Shah contacted Manipur CM N Biren Singh to inquire about the
situation. Singh assured that necessary actions would be taken, and the
culprits would face severe punishment.
"I was deeply disturbed upon watching the video; it is a crime against humanity. I have directed the police to arrest the perpetrators, and our government will strive to ensure that they face capital punishment. Every human being should condemn such acts," Singh stated.
Authorities reported that
one of the main suspects, Khuyrum Heradas, has already been apprehended in
Thoubal district on Thursday morning. The investigation continues, and the
nation awaits justice for the victims and their families.
