Delhi's DEO rejected AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s claims of BJP-led voter deletions, labeling them baseless. Voter removals follow strict guidelines, requiring thorough verification. Singh and BJP continue to exchange accusations over voter registrations ahead of the Delhi assembly elections.
New Delhi's district election officer (DEO) has dismissed AAP MP Sanjay Singh's claims of voter deletion in the New Delhi constituency, calling them "factually incorrect and baseless." Singh had alleged that the BJP was behind mass voter deletions targeting Purvanchali voters ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
On Friday, Singh met with the DEO to request the identities of those who filed applications to remove names from the electoral roll. He further claimed that the BJP had attempted to delete his wife's name as political retaliation.
In response, the DEO clarified that voter deletions follow strict Election Commission guidelines, requiring thorough verification before any action is taken. The official emphasized that merely filing an application does not trigger the deletion process. Form 7, used to raise objections, is routinely shared with all political parties, including AAP, through Form 10.
The BJP, in turn, accused AAP of registering "illegal" voters, including Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants, for electoral gains. The party also alleged that Singh’s wife is registered in Uttar Pradesh, making her ineligible to vote in Delhi. Singh has since threatened legal action against BJP leaders for these claims.
