Four Maoists and a police constable were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad forest during an anti-Maoist operation near the Narayanpur-Dantewada border. Security forces recovered automatic weapons, and search operations are ongoing to track down other Maoists in the area.
In a fierce encounter between security forces and Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Abujhmad forest, four Maoists and a police constable were killed, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The operation, launched Saturday evening, took place in the dense forests of South Abujhmad, near the border between Narayanpur and Dantewada districts. Acting on intelligence inputs about Maoist movements, a joint team of security personnel initiated the offensive.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Rai stated that during the clash, security forces recovered the bodies of four Maoists, seizing automatic weapons, including an AK-47 and a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR).
Head constable Sannu Karam, part of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), lost his life during the exchange of fire. The DRG plays a crucial role in anti-Maoist operations, often comprising personnel drawn from tribal communities.
The encounter marks another significant confrontation in the ongoing battle against left-wing extremism in the region. Security forces continue to comb the area for remaining Maoists, with operations expected to intensify in the coming days.
