Noting that stable and peaceful relations between the two countries are important for the region and the world, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on China and India to "urgently address the prolonged situation" on the border and put "the abnormality in our bilateral interactions" in the past.
The Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh has been the source of tense relations between China and India since four years ago. Prime Minister Modi addressed this topic during an interview with Newsweek magazine, stating, "For India, the relationship with China is important and significant."
If we want to stop this aberration in our bilateral interactions, I think we need to address the border issue right away. A stable and friendly relationship between China and India will benefit not just our two countries but the entire world. The prime minister expressed his hope that both nations would be able to contribute positively to military and diplomatic matters in order to preserve and uphold calm and peace along their borders.

The Quad alliance, which Prime Minister Modi stated will act as a counterweight to China in the Indo-Pacific, is made up of the United States, Japan, Australia, India, and China. Different groupings contain different mixtures of us. Quad is not aiming for any particular country. The Quad is only an additional global association of nations that share same objectives and principles with other groups like the BRICS or the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation [SCO].
Since the Indo-Pacific area drives global trade, innovation, and growth, security there is essential for the entire world. He said that the Quad states are collaborating to implement development projects in health security, counterterrorism, disaster management, strategic technologies, climate change, and maritime security, among other areas, in order to create an Indo-Pacific region that is free, open, and inclusive.
