Superintendent of Police, Departmental inquiry, Treatment of individuals

In a troubling event captured on video, two police officers in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district were recorded forcibly pulling a woman along the road outside the Superintendent of Police (SP) office. The footage, which swiftly circulated on social media, shows the woman initially being led by the officers towards the police station. However, she staged a sit-in protest, prompting the officers to resort to physically dragging her.

One of the officers can be seen gripping the woman's leg before hauling her along the ground towards the police station. Reports indicate that the woman is differently-abled and had approached the SP's office to file a complaint stemming from a disagreement with her spouse. The police assert that, rather than lodging her complaint, she attempted to scale the SP office wall.

Following the widespread dissemination of the video, SP Keshav Chandra Goswami took immediate action, initiating a departmental inquiry into the incident. This development underscores the need for a thorough examination of the actions of the involved officers, and raises questions about the treatment of differently-abled individuals seeking assistance from law enforcement agencies.
