Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the passing of Kuwait's ruling emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and extended condolences to the Royal family, Kuwait's leadership, and its people. Modi shared his sadness through a post on social media, acknowledging the unfortunate demise of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah.

India, in response to this loss, declared one day of state mourning, slated for December 17th. The Ministry of Home Affairs officially announced the decision, detailing that the National Flag across India will be flown at half-mast. As a mark of respect, all official entertainment activities will be suspended on that day.

The passing of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah, aged 86, was confirmed by state-run media. He had been hospitalized for an unspecified illness, leaving the nation in anticipation of updates on his health. Kuwait, known for its significant oil reserves and strategic ties with the US since the Gulf War, mourned the loss through televised statements.

Following Sheikh Nawaf's demise, speculation arose about the succession. Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber believed to be the oldest crown prince globally at 83, is positioned for leadership. However, the official successor remains unannounced.

The passing of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah marks a pivotal moment for Kuwait, a nation with a population slightly smaller than that of New Jersey. Its role in global diplomacy and its strategic alliance with the US signals a significant shift with this leadership transition.
