After
a 10-year-old girl in Patiala, India, died from consuming a birthday cake, the
police there conducted raids and lodged a First Information Report (FIR). They
were after the proprietor of the cake business.
The Patiala police department filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the bakery on Thursday. The FIR referenced Section 273 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with selling dangerous food or drink, and Section 304-A, which deals with causing death by negligence.
According to Varun Sharma, the senior superintendent of police in Patiala, the proprietor of the cafe is the target of raids right now. Sharma states that "the viscera sample of the deceased girl has been sent to the state forensic lab in Kharar in order to determine the cause of death." The lawsuit states that in order for everyone to celebrate the girl's birthday on March 24th, a meal delivery service was employed to purchase the cake.

Not long after the cake was consumed, the family members' health quickly began to deteriorate. Not only did the birthday girl begin to throw up all the time, but her entire family did too. After spending a few hours awake, the girl went to sleep. Her body was discovered in the early hours of March 25. The woman was brought to a neighboring private hospital, where the police report states that she was pronounced dead. By daybreak, the remaining members of the family recovered.
The deceased person's relatives claim that when they went to the health department on March 27 to request an investigation into the situation, higher-ups refused to allow them.
Food safety officer Jaswinder Singh said that because of the family's accusations of poisoning, it was not their responsibility.
Jaswinder argues that "The family members of the deceased had alleged poisoning, which does not come under our purview." Furthermore, he stated that the department will gather the samples as soon as they have the information from the bakery.
