Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, engaged
with the media at the Brussels Press Club, addressing a diverse range of
issues. These encompassed the contentious 'India vs Bharat' discourse, the
Kashmir situation, concerns over democratic institutions, and the impending G20
summit slated for New Delhi.
Regarding the recent social media stir surrounding G20 summit invitations being issued in the name of the "President of Bharat," Gandhi dismissed it as a manoeuvre by the Narendra Modi-led government to redirect focus. He underscored his contentment with the names outlined in the Constitution, affirming that "India, that is Bharat," is adequate. He interpreted these actions as indicators of government anxiety, deeming them manoeuvres rooted in apprehension.
Gandhi, presently on a European tour kickstarting in
Belgium, contended that the government was disconcerted by the opposition's
selection of the name "INDIA" for their coalition in advance of the
2024 Lok Sabha elections. He viewed this as a reflection of their identity as
champions for the nation. He criticised the Prime Minister's perceived
endeavour to alter the country's name, branding it as nonsensical.
Further scrutinising the Modi government, Gandhi highlighted a recurring pattern of introducing attention-grabbing distractions whenever matters involving Adani and crony capitalism were raised. He noted that this diversion tactic followed his recent press conference on Adani.
Reiterating his standpoint on Kashmir, he emphasised
its integral status within India, firmly within the country's purview. He
underscored the utmost importance of protecting India's democratic institutions
and championing the voices of its citizens across the nation.
