Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has criticized the Modi government following BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s remarks advocating for the reinstatement of the controversial farm laws. Gandhi took to X (formerly Twitter) to question who is shaping the government's policies, the Prime Minister or a BJP MP. He highlighted the deaths of over 700 farmers, mostly from Haryana and Punjab, during protests against the farm laws, implying that the government has learned nothing from the tragedy.

“Who is deciding the government's policy? A BJP MP or Prime Minister Modi?” Gandhi asked in his post, adding, “If any step is taken to harm the farmers, Modi ji will have to apologize again.”

Kangana Ranaut, speaking at an event in Himachal Pradesh, had expressed her support for the farm laws, claiming that they only faced protests in some states and that reinstating them would benefit farmers and enhance India's progress. Her comments sparked backlash from opposition leaders, with Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja labeling her as "habitually controversial" and Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate vowing never to let the laws return.

The farm laws, which were repealed in 2021 following widespread protests, remain a sensitive issue, particularly in agricultural states like Punjab and Haryana.
