Saif Ali Khan Unaware of Being Replaced in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas

During a 2001 conversation with journalist Nilufer Qureshi, Saif shared insights into his decisions regarding roles. He discussed his choice to accept a supporting character in Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, while declining a similar role in Bhansali's project. Saif humorously noted that his character in Vashu's film was notably cooler than the one presented by Bhansali in Devdas. He revealed Bhansali's perception of him as "silly," yet clarified that he hadn't directly rejected the part in question.

"While Sanjay Bhansali might consider me silly, it's important to clarify that I didn't reject his offer outright. There was a misunderstanding regarding the compensation. I want to emphasize that my salary demands were not unreasonable. However, the chapter was closed by Sanjay without any further dialogue on the matter. Strangely, no one even informed me that the negotiations had ceased until I personally reached out to inquire about the situation," Saif Ali Khan stated.

Saif Ali Khan further elaborated, expressing his disappointment with the way the situation unfolded. He emphasized the importance of clear communication and mutual understanding in such scenarios. Despite the misunderstanding, he affirmed his respect for Sanjay Bhansali's work and acknowledged that these instances were part of the industry's dynamics, where decisions sometimes have unexpected outcomes.
