SP Singla Construction, the company responsible for the recent collapse of the Bhagalpur bridge, is now under intense government scrutiny. At a press conference, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav and the additional chief secretary of the road construction department, Pratyay Amrit, disclosed that the collapse was an intentional action based on expert guidance. They disclosed that a section of the bridge had previously collapsed in April 2022, exposing significant structural defects.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed dissatisfaction, blaming the recurring collapses on incorrect construction practices. He highlighted that the bridge had collapsed previously and instructed officials to take strict action. Kumar emphasized that the frequent failures were a result of inadequate construction methods. An extensive investigation will be conducted to ensure appropriate measures are taken.

Ironically, SP Singla Construction had previously received multiple awards for its exceptional work from both the central and state governments. Notably, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) awarded the company the National Highways Excellence Award 2020 in the Bridge category. In 2019, it also received the Gold Award for outstanding work in challenging conditions in West Bengal. Recognition was presented by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Presently involved in various projects across India, SP Singla Construction is undertaking significant endeavors, including bridge construction in Assam, Gujarat, and more. However, the Bhagalpur bridge, with a budget exceeding Rs 1,700 crore, faced significant delays and setbacks. The recent collapse further exacerbated the project's setbacks.

During the press conference, Pratyay Amrit revealed that, as a precautionary measure, parts of the bridge were dismantled while awaiting the final report from IIT-Roorkee. Once the report is received, the government intends to take appropriate actions, including lodging an FIR and potentially blacklisting the responsible construction company.

The Bhagalpur bridge collapse has raised concerns about SP Singla Construction's construction practices. The government is committed to ensuring accountability and preventing future incidents through thorough investigations. With the company's reputation at stake, efforts are focused on rectifying the situation and implementing measures to prevent similar failures in the future.
