The Secret Service has deployed hundreds of agents to Anchorage for the Trump-Putin summit at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Tight hotel space, imported security vehicles, and precise coordination with Russian teams mark one of Alaska’s biggest security operations, as talks focus on Ukraine, economic cooperation, and a potential arms control deal.
Anchorage, Alaska, has seen an unprecedented influx of U.S. Secret Service agents ahead of Friday’s high-stakes meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The summit will take place at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, the state’s largest military installation, chosen for its secure environment and controlled airspace.
Local hotels, rental cars, and short-term accommodations have been commandeered for security teams, with agents flown in alongside SUVs, communications gear, and medical equipment. Anchorage’s limited capacity has required careful coordination, with some assets transported from other U.S. states. The Secret Service is also working closely with Russian security to implement a meticulously balanced protection plan, matching personnel and access for both leaders on a one-to-one basis.
Security protocols mean each leader’s immediate movements are guarded by their own team, while the opposing side controls an outer protective ring. Even meeting rooms, translators, and secure waiting areas are being arranged to ensure strict parity.
While Russia has yet to give final approval to the full security plan, hundreds of agents are already on the ground. Visible motorcade routes, plainclothes officers in public areas, and integration of Alaska state troopers into convoy operations underline the scale of the preparations.

The summit, described by Trump as a “feel-out” meeting, is expected to focus on ending the war in Ukraine, with possible discussions on territorial adjustments, economic cooperation, and a new arms control agreement. For Anchorage, officials say it is one of the largest and most complex security events the city has ever hosted.
