In a significant counteroffensive, security forces dismantled three militant bunkers in Churachandpur district of Manipur following deadly rocket attacks in the neighboring Bishnupur district. The rocket strikes, carried out on Friday, resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to six others. According to local police, the attacks involved long-range rockets launched from militant-occupied positions in the region.
The affected areas were Mualsang and Laika Mualsau villages in Churachandpur district, where security forces responded swiftly, conducting combing operations and destroying two bunkers in Mualsang and one in Laika Mualsau. The police, along with reinforcements, were reportedly fired upon by suspected militants during the operation but managed to retaliate and repel the attack.
A military helicopter was deployed to conduct aerial reconnaissance and monitor the ongoing situation. Authorities also held high-level security meetings to assess and manage the law and order situation in the region.

The rocket attacks in Bishnupur came just days after drone strikes were reported in nearby Imphal West district, sparking widespread panic among local populations. Residents of peripheral areas in Bishnupur and Imphal East districts have since been advised to turn off their lights at night due to the sightings of multiple drones.
These recent incidents mark an escalation in violence in the region, which has been plagued by ethnic unrest since last year, leading to over 200 deaths and the displacement of thousands. Security forces continue to closely monitor the situation as they work to restore peace and stability.
