Sevilla FC and Real Madrid are set to collide this
Saturday in a match that carries special significance for football legend
Sergio Ramos. The 37-year-old defender, a product of Seville, is about to
confront his former team, Real Madrid, for the first time since his departure
in 2021. Now, he proudly wears the Sevilla FC jersey, a club he first graced
nearly two decades ago in the LALIGA EA SPORTS league, back in 2004.
Ramos, who honed his skills at Camas CF in his hometown,
later joined the Sevilla FC academy, where he journeyed through the ranks
alongside Jesús Navas and the late Antonio Puerta. He eventually secured a
place in the first team's starting lineup.
His performances caught the eye of numerous clubs,
including Real Madrid. They sent their director of football, Arrigo Sacchi, to
scout Ramos during the 2004/05 season. Little did they know that Ramos would
crush their title dreams with an astounding goal in a 2-2 draw between the
teams in May 2005. His thunderous long-range strike opened the scoring, marking
his third and final goal for Sevilla FC before his move to Los Blancos in the
summer of 2005.
"The goal is a reward for the effort of the players
and a reflection of the sacrifice of many years in the youth categories,"
Ramos said after the game. "I'm happier about the result than the
goal."
Ramos, only 19 at the time, confidently embraced the
challenging role of a Real Madrid defender, inheriting the iconic No. 4 shirt
from Fernando Hierro.
"Ramos knows that being a defender at Real Madrid is a complicated challenge, as well as wearing this number, but he is a great footballer," noted club president Florentino Pérez. Ramos went on to become one of the best defenders globally, securing 22 titles, setting records, donning the captain's armband, and becoming the club's fourth-most-capped player in history.

Ramos left Real Madrid in 2021 to join Paris
Saint-Germain, where injuries marred his first season, preventing him from
facing his former team in the Champions League. Therefore, he has only faced
Real Madrid twice, both times while at Sevilla FC in the 2004/05 season.
Returning to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán after his
Paris stint, this Saturday's LALIGA EA SPORTS match holds special significance
for Ramos. He has been involved in 35 encounters between Sevilla FC and Real
Madrid, scoring eight goals in total. His appearance in this fixture for Los
Nervionenses is his first in over 18 years, a momentous occasion for both the
Spaniard and Real Madrid supporters.
This clash is more than just a football game; it's a
reunion of a legend with his roots and an encounter that the footballing world
eagerly awaits. Don't miss Sergio Ramos's homecoming to Sevilla FC as they take
on Real Madrid this Saturday.
