Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer expressed his confidence in handling short balls following India's triumph against Sri Lanka in the 2023 World Cup held in Mumbai. Despite facing challenges from bouncers in previous matches, Iyer delivered a stellar 82-run performance from 56 balls, contributing to India's total of 357 against the Lankan Lions. Regrettably, he fell just shy of securing his second ODI century.

Acknowledging his occasional struggles with bouncers, the middle-order batsman diligently prepared for short deliveries during India's World Cup training sessions. Iyer dismissed any concerns about facing such deliveries, attributing them to external perceptions. In a post-match press conference, he addressed the notion of a 'short-ball problem' and shared his perspective.

Iyer stressed the importance of ignoring external comments when it comes to a player's perspective. He emphasized the need to maintain focus on the game itself, stating, "The atmosphere created outside that suggests a player's vulnerability to short balls can sometimes get to you, but it's essential to tune it out and keep working on your game."

I've spent most of my playing career there, so I know how to handle it."

In response to media questions, Iyer expressed his confidence in his ability and stressed the support he received from his teammates. "I am confident in my game and myself, and I am serious enough to play certain deliveries," he said. To be honest, I don't mind getting out again and again."

Finally, Shreyas Iyer's performance against Sri Lanka in the World Cup demonstrates his resilience and resolve to overcome apparent hurdles. His statements represent a player who is devoted to his trade and is unafraid of external storylines.
