Siddaramaiah, a
prominent Congress leader, has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka
for a second term. D K Shivakumar, the state Congress President, has been sworn
in as the Deputy Chief Minister. Along with them, eight ministers from diverse
backgrounds have been appointed to Siddaramaiah's cabinet.
Governor Thaawarchand
Gehlot presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Siddaramiah, DK Shivakumar,
and other ministers at the crowded Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. It is
noteworthy that Siddaramaiah had previously taken his oath as Chief Minister in
the same stadium back in 2013. Prominent members of the Congress party,
including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, the party's
national president, graced the event with their presence.
The
Congress-ruled states' Chief Ministers, including Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of
Himachal, Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan, and Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh,
attended the event. Opposition party leaders like MK Stalin, Nitish Kumar,
Tejashwi Yadav, Mehbooba Mufti, and Farooq Abdullah were also present.
Sharad Pawar and
Kamal Haasan were among the opposition leaders in attendance at the swearing-in
ceremony of the newly-elected Karnataka Government in Bengaluru.
Actor and Makkal
Needhi Maiam chief, Kamal Haasan, made an appearance at the event. Prior to the
ceremony, Rahul Gandhi, Shivakumar, and Siddaramaiah were observed interlocking
their hands in the air, symbolizing their solidarity and determination.
Early in the
morning, a group of enthusiastic Congress supporters gathered outside
Siddaramaiah's residence, filled with anticipation and joy. The surroundings
were adorned with posters showcasing the prominent figures of the Gandhi
family, Shivakumar, and, of course, Siddaramaiah himself.
Being a leader
deeply connected with the grassroots, Siddaramaiah has earned a reputation for
his involvement in crafting state budgets over the years, displaying a keen
attention to even the minutest of details.
During a Congress
Legislative Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru, Congress leaders Priyank Kharge,
G Parameshwara, and DK Suresh were present at the stadium. After careful
consideration, the party leadership decided to choose former Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah over state Congress chief DK Shivakumar for the position of Chief
Minister, as they believed Siddaramaiah's extensive administrative experience
would be valuable in implementing the party's manifesto promises, especially
considering their financial implications. Siddaramaiah was elected as the new
CLP leader through a unanimous endorsement by all members present at the meeting.
Siddaramaiah, a
seasoned politician, has been chosen as the leader of the Congress Legislative
Party in Karnataka through unanimous support. He has a track record of
successfully navigating the state's intricate caste dynamics and challenging
the trend of voting out incumbent governments.
During his
previous tenure as Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah introduced numerous welfare
schemes that resonated with the people, aiding the Congress' campaign. Despite
facing electoral setbacks, he has consistently demonstrated resilience and a
commitment to social justice throughout his extensive political career.
