Amidst heightened concerns, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed the Lok Sabha that 403 Indian students have lost their lives abroad since 2018. Canada leads in student deaths with 91, followed by the UK with 48. The government underscores the significance of ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian students overseas.

The data presented by Jaishankar reveals a breakdown of fatalities by country, with Canada, the UK, Russia, the US, Australia, Ukraine, and Germany reporting the highest numbers. Recent tragic events in the US, where four Indian or Indian-origin students lost their lives in January, add urgency to the matter.

The untimely deaths of Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, Neel Acharya, Vivek Saini, and Akul B Dhawan in the US highlight the immediate need for enhanced safety measures for Indian students abroad. This alarming trend prompts a reevaluation of existing safety protocols and diplomatic efforts to ensure the well-being of students pursuing education globally.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for External Affairs Raj Kumar Ranjan Singh emphasizes India's 'Neighbourhood First policy,' fostering improved relations with immediate neighbors. In response to queries about the Israel-Hamas conflict, Minister of State V Muraleedharan reaffirms India's consistent support for a two-state solution and condemns the recent terror attacks, urging peaceful resolution through dialogue.

The disclosed statistics and recent tragic incidents underscore the pressing need for comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of Indian students studying abroad.
