Surat Hosts Spectacular Mega Yoga Event with CM Bhupendra Patel, Attracts Over 1 Lakh Participants

In a remarkable
celebration of the ninth edition of International Yoga Day, the city of Surat witnessed
a grand gathering of yoga enthusiasts on Wednesday. The event, graced by Chief
Minister Bhupendra Patel, brought together more than 1.25 lakh people who
performed yoga along a 12-kilometer stretch, spanning from Vesu to ONGC Circle.
The presence of
esteemed dignitaries and a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
added to the significance of the occasion.
The event
commenced at 6 am, with Chief Minister Patel addressing the enthusiastic crowd.
Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized the importance of yoga in maintaining
physical and mental well-being and expressed his delight at the overwhelming
participation from the people of Gujarat.
The extravaganza
caught the attention of the Guinness Book of World Records, with their teams
present in Surat to document this monumental event. Over 150 instructors,
stationed on each block, guided the participants through a series of more than
20 different asanas.
The Yoga Board
chairman, Shishpal Rajput, shared his excitement about the event and the
meticulous planning involved, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience for
everyone involved.
The main event
venue witnessed the presence of Chief Minister Patel, Home Minister Harsh
Sanghavi, Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh,
and state BJP chief C R Paatil, who joined other dignitaries in performing
various asanas.
The event
received extensive support from various sectors, including business
associations, NGOs, schools, colleges, MLAs, MPs, police officials, and government
representatives.
To ensure the
safety and comfort of the participants, the Surat Municipal Corporation and the
district administration collaborated to provide special facilities and maintain
strict adherence to protocols. The attendees wore wristbands embedded with QR
codes for streamlined access and management.
Moreover, medical
teams, water, and toilet facilities were readily available to cater to the
needs of the participants.
The Surat Police
Commissioner, Ajay Kumar Tomar, announced the temporary closure of the Vesu to
ONGC Circle stretch to vehicular traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday, ensuring an
uninterrupted and secure environment for the yoga event.
In the meantime,
alternate routes were designated for regular traffic, while service roads
alongside Vesu to ONGC Circle remained open for public convenience.
The successful
organization of this mega yoga event showcased Surat's dedication to promoting
health and well-being among its residents. With the immense participation and
enthusiastic response from the people of Gujarat, the event stood as a
testament to the significance of yoga in fostering a healthier and more
balanced society.
As the sun rose
over Surat, marking the culmination of the event at 7.45 am, the city rejoiced
in the collective spirit of unity, harmony, and holistic well-being achieved
through the practice of yoga.
The ninth edition
