As per ANI report, Maharashtra Cyberpolice has summoned the Bollywood actress, Tamannaah Bhatia for questioning in connection to the illegal streaming of IPL 2023 on Fairplay App. The app caused loss of Crores of Rupees to Viacom and she has been asked to appear before Maharashtra Cyber on 29th April.

After the FIR was filed by Viacom18 in September 2023, it came to light that the betting platform FairPlay was illegally showing the IPL matches without authorization, thereby causing huge financial losses to those who own the rights to the IPL matches. In December 2023, one of the employees of the betting platform was detained on the connection with the case.

Authorities are probing the possible association of well-known stars who could have been the ones that promoted the applications used for illegal streaming. This case reflects the rising issues about online piracy and the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the digital world nowadays.
