Tamannaah Bhatia becomes a prime suspect of the Illegal IPL Streaming Case

Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by Maharashtra Cyber Cell for questioning in an illegal IPL streaming case involving betting apps FairPlay and Mahadev, suspected of causing losses to Viacom18, the IPL broadcaster.
Indian actress Tamannaah Bhatia has been called upon by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell for questioning on an illegal streaming case involving the matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that took place in 2023. Being quoted by sources, Bhatia is to appear before the authorities on 29th of April.
The case is related to a betting app known as FairPlay and its subsidiary, Mahadev app, which streamed IPL matches illegally gaining them enormous losses in the range of tens of crores for Viacom18 which is the official broadcaster of the tournament and holds its Intellectual Property Rights.
Bhatia's name came up in the probe as it is alleged that she had done the marketing of and promoted the FairPlay app. Actor Sanjay Dutt too got the summons earlier. But he requested a new date for the case as he was busy with other works.
As per ANI report, Maharashtra Cyberpolice has summoned the Bollywood actress, Tamannaah Bhatia for questioning in connection to the illegal streaming of IPL 2023 on Fairplay App. The app caused loss of Crores of Rupees to Viacom and she has been asked to appear before Maharashtra Cyber on 29th April.

After the FIR was filed by Viacom18 in September 2023, it came to light that the betting platform FairPlay was illegally showing the IPL matches without authorization, thereby causing huge financial losses to those who own the rights to the IPL matches. In December 2023, one of the employees of the betting platform was detained on the connection with the case.
Authorities are probing the possible association
of well-known stars who could have been the ones that promoted the applications
used for illegal streaming. This case reflects the rising issues about online
piracy and the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the
digital world nowadays.
