Amid persistent rainfall in Chennai, the Chennai District Collectorate has announced the closure of government schools on December 2-3. This decision brings relief to thousands of affected students dealing with waterlogging issues. The Collectorate plans to decide on private school closures based on impending rainfall conditions.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of rough seas along Tamil Nadu's coast due to Cyclone Michaung. Its effect is visibly altering the coastline, with the sea receding about 100 meters at Velankanni Beach in Nagapattinam district. The northeast monsoon intensifies, leading to heavy rainfall across various Tamil Nadu districts.

Authorities hoisted 'cyclone warning cage-No-1' in five ports, including Nagapattinam port, signaling the approaching cyclonic weather. Velankanni Beach, a prominent tourist spot, shows a notable change as the sea recedes further from its usual shoreline. In anticipation of the cyclone, Chief Minister MK Stalin directed officials to ensure precautionary measures and potential evacuations.

Stalin urged departments to prepare for heavy rainfall forecasted by the 3rd and 4th of December. His instructions include identifying vulnerable areas and arranging relief camps for affected individuals. Continuous provisions of essentials, tree removal, and setting up emergency rooms in government hospitals are emphasized. Food centers are to be readied to aid those impacted by the cyclone.

In light of Cyclone Michaung's threat, schools in Puducherry, Karaikal, and Yanam regions will remain closed on December 4. The government's precautionary measures in these areas aim to ensure safety amidst the ongoing heavy rains and the anticipated cyclonic impact.
