The Election Commission of India has revoked the suspension of Telangana's DGP, Anjani Kumar, following allegations of MCC violation. Anjani Kumar's visit to Congress leader Revanth Reddy's residence during election counting prompted scrutiny. The Commission reinstated Kumar after evaluating the situation's impact on electoral conduct.
The
Election Commission of India (ECI) has recently made a significant decision
regarding the suspension of Telangana's Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani
Kumar. Initially suspended due to alleged Model Code of Conduct (MCC)
violations during the state assembly election counting, Kumar's reinstatement
comes after careful reevaluation.
Anjani
Kumar's suspension arose following claims of breaching MCC regulations by
meeting Congress leader Revanth Reddy, now the Chief Minister. His visit to
Reddy's residence, captured in photographs where pleasantries were exchanged,
sparked controversy on social media platforms, raising questions about
potential favoritism.
Accompanying Kumar during this meeting were state police officers Sanjay Kumar Jain and Mahesh M Bhagwat. The specificity of Kumar's engagement with Reddy, a prominent campaigner among 2,290 candidates, stirred suspicions of partiality. This focus on one candidate from a specific party among 16 questioned Kumar's impartiality during elections, a crucial aspect of the MCC.

The
Election Commission expressed concerns over the impact of such actions on
junior officers and the clarity of the MCC's guidelines. Their decision to lift
the suspension was based on a thorough assessment of the incident's
implications on electoral conduct and the need to uphold fairness and
transparency in the electoral process.
This reinstatement emphasizes the ECI's commitment to enforcing and maintaining the integrity of the MCC. It reflects a careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding Kumar's alleged breach, aiming to ensure the adherence of electoral officials to established guidelines for fair and unbiased elections in Telangana.
