The Ad-Hoc Panel of WFI to Host Senior National Wrestling Championships in Jaipur, Feb 2-5

In an authoritative move, an ad-hoc panel under the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) disclosed the organization of the senior national wrestling championships in Jaipur from February 2nd to 5th. The decision, confirmed by the ad-hoc panel, is set to unfold in the capital city of Rajasthan, Jaipur.

This championship spectacle will feature intense competition across Greco-Roman, Free Style, and women's wrestling categories. The details surfaced through an official press release jointly issued by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA)-appointed representatives and the newly assembled ad-hoc panel, steered by Bhupendra Singh Bajwa, President of the WUSHU Association of India.

The Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), stationed at the Railway Stadium in Ganpati Nagar, is entrusted with orchestrating and overseeing the championship proceedings. Moreover, the ad-hoc panel emphasized the imperative: no interaction between stakeholders and members linked to the suspended WFI faction.

This development traces back to the Sports Ministry of India's suspension of the incumbent WFI helmed by Sanjay Singh. This action came following the body's violation of its constitutional norms. Singh's administration hastily announced the U15 and U20 nationals in Nandini Nagar, Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, from December 28th to 30th, facing severe repercussions.

Concerns heightened as it appeared that the Sanjay Singh-led body operated in defiance of the Sports Code, retaining close ties with former office bearers. Consequently, the Sports Ministry intervened, urging the IOA to take charge of WFI's operations. This led to the formation of a three-member ad-hoc panel, with Bhupendra Singh Bajwa at the helm, alongside MM Somaya, an Olympic gold medallist in hockey (1980), and Manjusha Kanwar, a Commonwealth Games badminton medallist (1998).

While the WFI remains under suspension by the United World Wrestling (UWW) since August, this development continues to unfold against the backdrop of delayed elections and ongoing governance issues.
