 Russia-Ukraine War:-
International Criminal Court has been reportedly swung into action on the year-long Russia-Ukraine war. A report by the Reuters and New York Times has brought into light the actions that they will be taking concerning the Russia-Ukraine war. The International Criminal Court, which is an inter-governmental court formed by the UN, is responsible for solving heinous crime cases between countries. Reason for The Interference by the International Criminal Court 43 nations have sent requests to the International Criminal Court to take up the matter of the Russia-Ukraine war to stop the human rights violations committed by Russia in the territory of Ukraine. A large number of requests have come up because the Russia-Ukraine war has no longer remained a war driven by the clash of international political agendas between the two countries. The Russia-Ukraine war has changed into a gruesome exchange of hate. and Russia has violated numerous war ethics in the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia-Ukraine War Russia-Ukraine War What Actions Will be Taken by The International Criminal Court? The International Criminal Court is expected to issue arrest warrants to Russians who were engaged in the kidnapping and abduction of Ukrainian children and adults. Warrants will also be issued to those involved in the demolition of Ukrainian civilians’ infrastructures. Then the International Criminal Court will further take action in line with its mandate against war crimes in the international community. Pieces of evidence that have been collected by Ukraine over a large period will be looked into by the Court. Support by the United States The United States is not a member party to the statute from which the International Criminal Court draws its powers and functions. However, the country is trying to extend its support to the International Criminal Court by other means. Reportedly, US Ambassador for Global Criminal Justice, Van Schaack, said in this regard, “the State Department is looking for ways to support the International Criminal Court in accordance with U.S. law and policy to ensure that the ICC can operate effectively and fairly and that its prosecutors can level charges against foreign nationals who bear significant responsibility for atrocity crimes committed in Ukraine.” Significance of the interference of the International Criminal Court: Amid the intensifying scenes of war between Russia and Ukraine, this move of interference by the International Criminal Court has a very special significance in the interest of international peace. Putin has been pursuing the war very aggressively, and there has been mass destruction in  Ukraine all across the length and breadth of the country. The international agencies need to interfere so that the war can be stopped from snow-balling into the Third World War and Putin can be made to recognize some international conventions to maintain world peace.
