Experts are launching a mission to create the most detailed map of the Titanic wreck using advanced robotics and imaging technology. The expedition aims to provide new insights into the ship's sinking and honor those lost in maritime tragedies.

A group of scientists is preparing for a historic mission to produce the most comprehensive pictorial survey of the Titanic wreckage. The mission, starting on Friday from Providence, Rhode Island, intends to employ state-of-the-art equipment to photograph and survey every aspect of the historic vessel and shed new light on the liner’s calamitous sinking that transpired more than a hundred years ago.

This reconnaissance exercise is being spearheaded by RMS Titanic Inc, the sole salvager of the shipwreck, based in the United States of America. Two complex robotic systems will penetrate approximately 4,000 meters submerging to the ocean bottom and taking millions of high-quality images and creating a detailed 3D map of the debris area.

Co-expedition leader David Gallo said: ‘We want to achieve the level of detail and sharpness of the images that has not been done before. ’The team is to stay at the site for up to 20 days with the weather conditions being taken into consideration, while the team’s operational base will be the logistics ship Dino Chouest.

This is the first time such a commercial mission has been made to the Titanic site since the OceanGate mishap of last year that took five lives. The expedition will pay respect to the people who died in that event, as well as 1500 passengers and crew who died when Titanic sank in 1912 through a combined sea memorial service.

The mission will use various technologies, such as Ultra High Definition cameras and a tailored lighting system. A magnetometer, employed for the first time at Titanic site, can add more data about the bow part of the ship and its state after sinking.

Even though the expedition is only an exploration, it is a major advancement in Titanic investigation. The collected data could contain crucial information about the ship’s last moments and its state after the disaster in the course of the last one hundred years.

Before the team departs on their journey, they are burdened with the expectations of the past and the duty of documenting the stories of the fallen sailors. This mission may change the perception of the location of the most famous ship – the Titanic that met its final fate in a disaster.
