A tragic bus accident on Monday left at least 15 people dead after a Garwal Motors Users' bus plunged into a 200-meter gorge near the Pauri-Almora border in Uttarakhand, specifically at Kupi in Ramnagar. The bus, carrying approximately 40 passengers, was en route from Garhwal to Kumaon when it veered off the road near Marchula in Almora district.

District Magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey reported that rescue teams, including police and SDRF personnel, were swiftly deployed to the site to manage search and rescue efforts. The injured passengers are being transported to nearby hospitals, with the severely injured potentially requiring airlift to receive immediate medical attention. As of now, the death toll stands at 15, though officials caution that this number may increase as more information surfaces.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences over the accident and directed local authorities to ensure swift relief efforts. He announced on social media that measures were underway to prioritize medical support for the injured, including the option of air evacuation for those in critical condition. The incident has sparked concerns over road safety in the region, where challenging terrain and weather conditions often pose hazards to drivers.
