The TTD has filed a police complaint against AR Dairy Foods for supplying adulterated ghee. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) confirmed the presence of vegetable and animal fats in the ghee used for laddu prasadam, sparking political tensions and calls for temple poojas to restore Tirumala’s sacredness.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which oversees the Lord Venkateshwara temple, filed a formal complaint against Tamil Nadu-based AR Dairy Foods Pvt Ltd for allegedly supplying adulterated ghee. The complaint, lodged with Tirupati police, follows the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations.
TTD had placed an order with AR Dairy Foods in May for 10 lakh kg of ghee, which was delivered in four batches between June and July. Although the ghee passed standard quality tests, subsequent complaints from pilgrims led the temple to test for adulteration at the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
Reports confirmed the presence of vegetable and animal fats in the ghee used to make the temple’s laddu prasadam, sparking outrage. AR Dairy Foods denied the accusations, but TTD issued show-cause notices and initiated an inquiry.

The controversy has also fueled political tensions, with YSR Congress leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accusing former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu of politicizing the issue. Reddy called for temple poojas to restore the sanctity of the prasadam and refute allegations of animal fat adulteration, which he said have hurt devotees' sentiments.
