Amid intense rainfall in Faridabad, Haryana, two HDFC Bank employees lost their lives after driving their SUV into a waterlogged underpass late Friday night. The victims, 48-year-old Punyashray Sharma, a branch manager, and 26-year-old Viraj Dwivedi, a cashier, were on their way home to Greater Faridabad from Gurugram.

The incident occurred at the Old Faridabad Railway underpass, which was severely flooded due to continuous rain. Despite warnings for vehicles to avoid the area, the two men misjudged the water levels and drove into the underpass. As their SUV became submerged, they attempted to escape and swim to safety. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain.

Local police reported that passersby tried to assist the duo trapped in the vehicle. While Sharma was pulled out and rushed to the Badshah Khan Civil Hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival. Dwivedi’s body was recovered hours later after an extensive search operation, around 4 a.m. Saturday.
