In the previous term, 2021–2022, Vijender Sharma served as the Institute's Vice President, CMA Rakesh Bhalla Central Council Member, and Chair of the Direct Taxes Committee. The cost and management accountancy professions are regulated in India by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI-CMA), a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament. Experts in costing, valuation, the 2016 Insolvency, and Bankruptcy Code, and the Goods and Services (GST) Acts make up its qualified members.

He has extensive business experience, and he currently serves as SML ISUZU Ltd.'s chief financial officer. He has written numerous articles that have benefited taxation professionals and is an expert in both direct and indirect taxes. He has been chosen to serve on the Institute's Council for the years 2019 to 23. He previously held the positions of Chairman of NIRC and Chairman of Direct Taxation (2021–2022). (2010-11 & 2013-14).
