Amid escalating tensions in the Sandeshkhali area of West Bengal, TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh has been arrested by the West Bengal Police. This comes in the aftermath of violent protests and allegations against him. The arrest has sparked both celebration and skepticism from political quarters.

In the midst of heightened tensions following the Sandeshkhali violence, Shahjahan Sheikh, a prominent Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, was apprehended by the West Bengal Police today. The arrest took place in the Sarberia area, with Sheikh currently under police custody in Basirhat. This move comes as a significant development amid the ongoing unrest in the region.

The arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan is seen as a crucial step by law enforcement to address the escalating turmoil in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas. Sources within the police department revealed that the arrest was carried out in compliance with directives from the Kolkata High Court, empowering authorities to take action against individuals involved in the violence. Sheikh has been transferred to the Basirhat Court for further legal proceedings.

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh applauded the timely arrest, emphasizing the party's commitment to upholding the law. On the other hand, BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya alleged that Sheikh's arrest was orchestrated by the TMC and the state police. The Sandeshkhali region has been in turmoil for over a month due to protests against Sheikh and his associates, alleging sexual abuse and land encroachment. Sheikh's arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing saga of unrest in the area.
