President Trump ordered U.S. flags flown at half-staff to honor victims of a school shooting in Minneapolis, where two children were killed and 17 others injured. The attack, labeled domestic terrorism, prompted increased security. Flags will remain lowered until August 31, 2025, across federal and military buildings globally.

President Donald Trump has ordered all U.S. flags on public buildings, military posts, and naval stations to be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims of a tragic school shooting in Minneapolis. The decision, issued via presidential proclamation on Wednesday, came after a deadly attack by 23-year-old Robin Westman inside a local church.
Westman, a former student of the school and member of the church, opened fire with a rifle, discharging 116 rounds. The assault claimed the lives of two children—an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old—and injured 14 other children and three adults. FBI Director Kash Patel later confirmed that the attack is being investigated as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics.
In his announcement, President Trump stated that flags would remain at half-staff until sunset on August 31, 2025. The directive also extends to U.S. embassies, consulates, and military installations worldwide. “I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff... as a mark of solemn respect for the victims,” Trump said in the official statement.
The incident has sparked a wave of mourning and renewed concerns over domestic terrorism and gun violence. In response, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz deployed additional law enforcement personnel to churches and schools across Minneapolis, emphasizing that children should never have to fear for their lives in places of learning or worship.

President Trump also expressed his condolences, saying he was “praying for everyone involved.” The nation now grapples with the emotional toll of another senseless act of violence, as families, communities, and the country reflect on the lives lost.
