Yamuna Water Level to Decrease Below Danger Level in Delhi

The water level of Yamuna in Delhi is gradually receding. Reportedly on Sunday at 11pm the water was recorded as 205.50m at the Old Railway Bridge. Although it is still above the danger mark of 205.33m , it is expected to come down soon.
Earlier the day at 8PM the water level was marked as 205.56m in Delhi.
Delhi revenue minister, Atishi on 17th July,2023 stated that, with the rapid fall in water level it is expected to be below the danger level by night. She also mentioned that currently their priority is to get life back to normal and organize rehabilitation camps for the ones who were forced to evacuate their dwellings. And as there is still water logging in many parts of the city the respective department is pumping out water from the roads.
The administration including Minister Atishi and Delhi LG VK Saxena had to set foot on the ground and visited Raj Ghat, Shantivan and Red Fort on Sunday to take stock of the situation.
At 5 pm on July 10, the Yamuna River in Delhi exceeded the critical level of 205.33m.
According to the most recent prediction from the Central Water Commission (CWC) on July 16 at 08:30 AM, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) was anticipated to reach 205.47 meters between 08:00 PM to 10:00 PM and then decrease afterward.
The hourly water discharge from the HathniKund Barrage, which had peaked at around 3,60,000 cusecs on July 11, has now reduced to 53955 cusecs as of Sunday at 08:00 PM.
Rescue Operations in Delhi:
In response to the flood situation in Delhi, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has mobilized 17 teams to carry out rescue operations. So far, they have successfully rescued 1606 individuals. Additionally, the NDRF teams have evacuated 7241 people and 956 livestock from the affected districts. Furthermore, they have provided pre-hospital treatment to 908 of the rescued individuals.
Approximately 26,401 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas in six Delhi districts. Out of them, around 21,504 individuals are housed in 44 camps, including temporary relief centers and permanent structures like schools and community centers. The remaining evacuees have opted to stay with relatives or in rented accommodations.
