President Zelensky said Turkey, Gulf nations, or European countries could host direct peace talks with Putin. He stressed the need for U.S.-led pressure on Russia to make negotiations possible. While Moscow hasn't committed, Zelensky’s openness marks a shift toward diplomacy, as Trump threatens sanctions if Putin avoids a ceasefire.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday that Turkey, the Gulf states, or European nations could serve as hosts for potential direct peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, marking a significant step in diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
In a video address, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is ready to prepare for such negotiations “to the maximum,” but said that meaningful progress depends heavily on coordination with Ukraine’s allies — especially the United States — to maintain consistent pressure on Moscow.
“This week, there will be contacts with Turkey, the Gulf States, and European countries which could host talks with the Russians,” Zelensky said, adding that Russia has yet to demonstrate any real commitment to meaningful negotiations.
Zelensky’s comments came as senior Ukrainian officials, including his chief of staff Andriy Yermak, met with Qatar’s defense minister in Doha. The visit reflects Ukraine's broader diplomatic outreach in search of a neutral and influential venue for peace discussions.
The Ukrainian President also met with U.S. envoy Keith Kellogg in Kyiv on Monday, reinforcing the critical role of U.S. leadership. “Everything depends on the will of world leaders, especially the U.S., to put real pressure on Russia,” Zelensky said.
While Russia continues to stall on formal negotiations, the U.S. is signaling a harder stance. President Donald Trump has warned of “serious” economic sanctions against Moscow if Putin refuses to agree to a ceasefire, saying, “We’re not going to get into a world war, but we have powerful economic tools.”

Despite no confirmed agenda or date for the proposed talks, Zelensky’s willingness to meet directly with Putin — under international observation — could mark a turning point, depending on the Kremlin’s response and the resolve of Ukraine’s allies.
