In a poignant display of sportsmanship, Afghanistan's star batter, Ibrahim Zadran, delivered a heartfelt message of support for Afghan refugees in Pakistan during a thrilling cricket match against Pakistan in Chennai. Zadran's remarkable performance on the pitch and his dedication to the Player of the Match award served as a symbol of solidarity for Afghan refugees.

Ibrahim Zadran, who played a crucial role in his team's victory by scoring an impressive 87 runs off 113 deliveries, spoke passionately after the match. He said, "I want to dedicate this Man of the Match to those people who were sent from Pakistan back to their home in Afghanistan." This gesture highlighted the plight of nearly 1.7 million undocumented Afghan refugees who are facing deportation from Pakistan by November 1.

The decision by Islamabad to deport these refugees has drawn strong criticism from Kabul, which deems it unacceptable. This humanitarian concern has overshadowed the cricketing rivalry between the two nations, emphasizing the broader socio-political issues at stake.

This thrilling match marked Afghanistan's second upset win of the tournament, following their earlier victory over defending champions England. Pakistan, after winning the toss and opting to bat, scored 282 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Captain Babar Azam was the standout performer, contributing 74 runs off 92 deliveries, while opener Abdullah Shafique added 58 runs to the total. Afghanistan's Noor Ahmad emerged as the top bowler, taking three crucial wickets for 49 runs.

The victory was not just another feather in Afghanistan's cricketing cap; it was also their first-ever win against Pakistan in a One Day International (ODI). This historic achievement eclipsed their previous best successful ODI chase, which had been 274 against the United Arab Emirates nine years ago.

The loss pushed Pakistan into a must-win situation for a spot in the semifinals, as they now have only four points from five matches. They currently occupy the sixth spot in the standings, just behind Pakistan on net run rate. This unexpected turn of events leaves England languishing at the bottom of the table.
