The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has expressed interest in joining the opposition's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance for the upcoming Maharashtra state assembly elections. Former MP Imtiaz Jaleel, speaking on behalf of AIMIM, stated that the party's primary goal is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Jaleel criticized the BJP, saying, "The BJP has damaged the country, so we want to keep them away from the government by any means." He emphasized that this objective supersedes any potential ideological differences with MVA constituents, including the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction.

The AIMIM leader extended an open offer to the MVA, stating, "We had said this during the Lok Sabha elections and we are giving an offer to the MVA again to join hands as we want to defeat the BJP. But it is up to them whether to include us in the alliance or not." Jaleel suggested that including AIMIM in the alliance would benefit the MVA but added that AIMIM is prepared to contest the elections independently if the offer is not accepted.

Jaleel also criticized the ruling Mahayuti government's 'Ladki Bahin' scheme, describing it as a ploy to gain votes rather than a genuine concern for women's welfare. He said, "It shows that there is no love for the sisters. It is just a deal."

While open to an alliance with MVA, Jaleel ruled out any collaboration with Prakash Ambedkar's Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA). Both AIMIM and VBA were not part of either the NDA or the INDIA bloc in the 2024 general elections.

This potential alliance could significantly impact the political landscape in Maharashtra, as parties maneuver for position ahead of the crucial assembly polls.
