At a Baramati public event, Ajit Pawar sparked controversy by telling voters they don’t “own” him. His remarks followed public demands, prompting BJP’s Chandrashekhar Bawankule to reassure voters of government accountability. The incident highlights tensions between public expectations and political leadership.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar caused a stir during a public event in Baramati on Sunday after expressing frustration over receiving multiple memorandums from the crowd. Addressing the gathering, Pawar sharply remarked, “You voted for me, but that doesn't mean you own me,” questioning whether the public perceived him as their servant.

The incident unfolded as citizens presented various demands to the veteran NCP leader. Pawar’s reaction has drawn mixed responses, with critics pointing to the importance of public accountability in leadership.

In response to the controversy, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule emphasized the role of voters in bringing leaders to power. He reassured the public that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises and addressing citizens' needs.

Ajit Pawar, known for his administrative acumen and strong political lineage under the mentorship of his uncle Sharad Pawar, holds significant influence in Maharashtra’s political landscape. His current tenure as deputy CM marks his sixth stint in the role, reflecting his sustained prominence in state politics.

Pawar’s political journey has witnessed multiple alliances and shifts in Maharashtra’s dynamic coalition environment. In 2023, he parted ways with his uncle’s faction of the NCP and joined the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition under Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s leadership.

While Pawar’s comments sparked debate, his supporters argue that his leadership has consistently delivered results for the region. However, political analysts suggest that such statements could alienate voters ahead of upcoming elections.
