National Congress Party leader Anil Deshmukh responded to a remark made by Ajit Pawar, targeting NCP chief Sharad Pawar, stating, “The 82-year-old lion is still alive.”
This remark was in response to Ajit Pawar's comment on Sharad Pawar's visit to the YB Chavan memorial, saying, "The other day, he went to YB Chavan memorial...I've also been there..but you are 83, aren't you going to stop?" Deshmukh took a jibe at Ajit Pawar by replying that the 82-year-old lion is still alive.
The Sharad Pawar loyalist reacted to Ajit’s comments regarding the veteran leader, who said “I still have deep respect for him (Sharad Pawar)...But you tell me, IAS officers retire at 60...even in politics - BJP leaders retire at 75. You can see the example of LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi...That allows the new generation to rise...You (Sharad Pawar) give us your blessings.”
Implying that despite being 83 years old, Sharad Pawar continues to be actively involved in political activities, Ajit further questioned whether he plans to slow down or retire from politics. All of these statements were made by him while he was addressing his supporters at MET College in Bandra.
Ajit also revealed his wish to become the state's chief minister so that he can “implement certain plans… for people's welfare” at the same event. Earlier, Chhagan Bhujbal, a leader of the National Congress Party (NCP), stated that the Ajit faction had the support of over 40 MLAs. However, he mentioned that some of them could not attend the event due to being either "caught in traffic or being in other states."
In a shocking turn of events, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar conducted separate meetings with their respective supporters on Wednesday. The meeting, held in Mumbai, is said to be held in anticipation of Ajit Pawar's intention to approach the Election Commission to assert his claim to the name and symbol of the party that was originally founded by his uncle, Sharad Pawar.
