Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the United States following an invitation from President Donald Trump. The visit, expected to take place from February 12 to 14, aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
During a phone conversation on January 27, Trump and Modi discussed trade, immigration, and security cooperation. Modi congratulated Trump on his second term and reaffirmed India's commitment to a “mutually beneficial and trusted partnership.”
According to sources, Modi will meet Trump on February 13 in Washington, D.C. The US President is likely to host a dinner for Modi during the visit. Besides high-level discussions, Modi is expected to meet American business leaders and the Indian diaspora.
Trade relations between India and the US remain a focal point. Bilateral trade surpassed $118 billion in 2023-24, making the US India's largest trading partner. Trump has emphasized reducing the US trade deficit with India, and New Delhi has recently lowered customs duties on key American products, signaling its intent to foster smoother trade relations.
Another key agenda is immigration. Trump reportedly raised concerns about illegal immigration from India, and New Delhi has assured cooperation in repatriating those who entered the US illegally.
