A farmer in Andhra
Pradesh's Annamaya district was found strangled to death while he was asleep,
guarding his tomato crop. This unfortunate event marks the second death
reported in the region within a span of just seven days.
The victim, identified as Madhukar Reddy, met his untimely demise when unidentified individuals attacked him while he was sleeping at his farm near Pedda Tippa Samudra late on Sunday night. The assailants are believed to have taken advantage of his vulnerable state to commit this heinous crime.
As news of the
incident spread, DSP Kesappa promptly arrived at the crime scene to initiate an
investigation. "We have arrived at the location after receiving the
information and are in the process of probing the incident. Further details are
yet to be uncovered," stated DSP Kesappa. The authorities have registered
a case in connection with the crime.
Tragically, this occurrence follows another recent incident where a 62-year-old man was allegedly murdered by robbers seeking money. The victim, Rajasekhar Reddy, had managed to earn an impressive sum of Rs 30 lakh by selling tomatoes in the first week of July. Rajasekhar, a resident of Madanapalle, cultivated tomatoes and sold them at the renowned tomato market, known as the largest tomato market in Asia.
Taking advantage of
his financial gains, the perpetrators targeted Rajasekhar for his wealth. This
heartbreaking incident highlights the vulnerability faced by farmers and their
produce in the face of rising crime rates.
The farming
community, already grappling with numerous challenges, now faces the added
burden of safeguarding their livelihoods. Authorities must take immediate
action to apprehend those responsible for these senseless acts and provide
enhanced security measures to protect farmers and their valuable crops.
