In a significant
development, Shahnawaz Maqsood Khan, also known as Baddo, was apprehended by
Police in Mumbai on Sunday for his alleged involvement in converting minor boys
through an online gaming app. The arrest came following a complaint filed by a
teenager's father at Kavi Nagar police station in Ghaziabad, and a subsequent
investigation led the authorities to Khan.
The Mumbai Police
conducted extensive interrogations, and he is set to appear before the Thane
court today.
The Ghaziabad
police, eager to bring Khan to justice, sought transit remand for him. Earlier,
a Ghaziabad police team had pursued Khan in Mumbra, where he managed to evade
capture.
The search
continued, leading the authorities to raid Solapur and question Khan's mother
twice.
Eventually, the
Mumbra police received a tip-off about Khan's presence in Worli, Mumbai, and
promptly dispatched a team to apprehend him. However, they discovered that he
had left for Alibaug.
Late at night,
the Mumbra police reached Alibaug and commenced a thorough search of lodges and
cottages in the area. At 11 am on Sunday, they successfully apprehended Khan
along with his brother.
Although his
brother has since been released, Khan remains in custody pending further legal
proceedings.
The case revolves
around Khan's alleged involvement in the conversion of minors through an online
gaming app. It is believed that Khan and his accomplice, Abdul Rehman alias
Nanni Ansari, would target children by creating fake IDs on the popular game
Fortnite.
Through these
deceptive means, they would engage the minors and gradually trap them in their
conversion network.
Khan reportedly
taught the losers of the game the Karma, a significant Islamic creed, under the
guise of improving their chances of winning. Additionally, he and Ansari would
employ banned Islamic speakers' videos to manipulate and indoctrinate these
vulnerable youngsters.
The court has
granted transit remand for Khan until June 15th, assigning the responsibility
to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) police for his safe transfer. It has been decided
that Khan will be transported by road from Mumbra, Thane to Uttar Pradesh,
where he will face further investigation and legal proceedings.
This arrest
serves as a stern reminder of the need for vigilant monitoring of online
platforms and the dangers posed by individuals seeking to exploit innocent
children. The case highlights the importance of raising awareness about online
safety and ensuring robust measures to protect minors from falling victim to
such malicious schemes.
