The forest department in Assam
has seized a huge cache of smuggled animal body parts from the Manas National
Park and apprehended five suspected poachers.
The efforts of Manas National
Park's rangers and officials, under the forest department, resulted in the
recovery of rhino horns, elephant tusks, and tiger bones during their
operation.
After the arrest of the suspects,
legal action has been initiated against them.
A case has been filed against the
accused individuals under the Wildlife Protection Act in connection with this
matter.
Expressing his appreciation for the dedication shown by the
Assam Forest Department, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the
operation as a
“first-of-its-kind intel-based
operation”.
He stated, “In a first-of-its-kind intel-based operation carried out by the Forest Department, a huge cache of banned wildlife articles including a rhino horn were recovered in an operation in Manas.”
The minister further expressed, “Arrests of poachers have
also been made in this connection. Well done.”
